Often when we think about confidence, we think about commanding a room, but how frequently is that room a bedroom?

In this week’s episode of Cocktails & Confessions, hosts Anthony Gilét and Mark-Ashley Dupé talk about physical, emotional, and sexual confidence. For one to step back and ask themselves if they’re “sexy” can be an uncomfortable approach for many people; and it’s one that Gilét admits he can’t answer “yes” to. Along with asking the followers of Cocktails & Cocktalk about their own insecurities, the pair do discuss some tips that can help improve your sexual self-image:

Exercise 

Because our body confidence is undeniably tied to our sexual confidence (because we’re naked when we engage in it), it makes sense that improving how we feel about our bodies has a direct correlation to how confident we feel in bed. As many C&C followers highlighted with their own confessionals, they’re least confident with their own bodies, and therefore making healthy choices towards changing that perception can eliminate just one of the obstacles to performing our best.

Delusional, Yet Positive Mantras 

Another way to give yourself a boost is through positive affirmations. Gilét states that he does this by telling himself, “everybody wants to fuck me”. Is it delusional? Sure. But does it make you feel better? 100%. And as the law of attraction has taught us: what we believe to be true will eventually manifest.

“As soon as I start telling myself that, I notice my back gets straighter, I hold my head higher…” he said. And so it’s a technique that can work for different forms of confidence too.

Mirror Masturbation 

This may sound narcissistic, but years ago, C&C contributor Maximus Crown mentioned briefly about how he’d been masturbating in front of the mirror. But is it really conceited being able to tell yourself you look good? It offers the opportunity to view yourself in a way that most people can’t/don’t (unless they’ve got mirrored ceilings or an OnlyFans account), as well as learning new bedroom mannerisms that’ll turn your partner on.

It’s a bit like women who have never seen their vagina up close… How can you love all of you, if you don’t even know it all?

Gilét notes that he was pleasantly surprised with the effect this practice had on him, and encouraged all listeners to do the same. “Masturbate in front of the mirror – and report back!”

Building Tension

Building tension beforehand can not only improve your performance in the sack (by making you hornier) but the prelude is a path to comfort with that partner, and we’re almost always better in bed with people we feel comfortable with.

As dating evolved and random sexual encounters became more prevalent it can be difficult to build our confidence when most of these interactions are shallow, quick, and anonymous. Spending a couple hours chatting with your date, and easing into foreplay can make you feel more comfortable, less anxious, and inject chemistry.

Fake it til You Make It

A wise Brooklyn-based vegan once said, “I don’t give a shit if a guy has a small dick, as long as he slapping it around my face like he’s got a big dick”.

Ultimately, the reason why we work towards confidence – aside from feeling better within – is because confidence is sexy. Faking confidence and seeing how into you your partner can be because of this is a cycle that we can kickstart ourselves.

Put simply, if there are two guys standing in front of you – both of equal attractiveness and both with less than average penis sizes, but one who doesn’t care about his size – most people are likely to pick the *ahem* cockier guy; because confidence is sexy and insecurity isn’t.

Know You’re in Good Company

Even the hottest guys in the world are insecure about something.

Not that comparing ourselves to anybody else ever did anybody any good, but we only ever do this through a negative lense. While we observe the washboard abs and other perfect body parts of instathots, we often compare our failures to their successes. But one thing they’re terrible at or self-conscious about could be something you’re amazing at doing.

Similarly, discussing these with your friends help to realise that you’re not alone with insecurities, but opens the door to offer each other tips for things the other excels in – or likewise, also struggles with.

Flip your views 

Sometimes it’s great to get a fresh perspective by asking… yourself (but from a different standpoint). For example, are the things you feel self-conscious about the same things you’d judge other people for? Things like love handles, penis size, and birth marks may be things we don’t feel the best about, but wouldn’t bat an eyelid if it were another person. Are these insecurities rooted in truth or just our distorted perception of it?

Ultimately, Dupé addresses the topic best, saying: “Sex is real!” And it’s the realities that we need to learn to accept, because perfect sex with the perfect angles just isn’t achievable for most people – and that’s OK – because real sex is sexy too.

YouTuber Jake Paul has been filmed looting during the #BlackLivesMatter protests in Arizona, years after his brother was embroiled in controversy for filming the dead body of a suicide victim.

As protests took place across America to condemn the murder of George Floyd, Paul can be heard telling his friends “grab me a free cologne”. Or was that just a “joke “?

A number of videos portray Paul and his pals parading around a shopping mall in Scotsdale, AZ.

And strangely, we’re yet to see any footage of the “peaceful protesting” or marching that they reportedly took part in, something you’d expect from a YouTuber that films every last second of their life.

IBT outlines that in the video one of his friends is seen stealing a bottle of vodka from a P.F Chang’s restaurant, and in later videos, Paul is seen holding the same bottle. Riot by proxy?

Instagram will become a sea of black squares over the next 30 hours (factoring in different timezones) as people join Blackout Tuesday and stand in solidarity with racial inequality and the Black Lives Matter movement.

The idea is that users will post a plain black square (some variations have hearts and power-fists) to their feed and then commit to not posting for the rest of the day. The concept of Blackout Tuesday is to show respect for those lives of colour which have already been lost while considering ways they themselves can fight racism.

The idea was birthed by the music industry, which lead by stating it would cease producing of any new music or posting to social media and instead utilize the “day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community” and was organised under the hashtag “#THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED”, thought #BlackoutTuesday is the more common trending hashtag currently.

Users are discouraged from using the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag on these types of posts and it obstructs the important information (help resources, points of donation and protest times/locations) associated with the movement itself.

The trend has swept social media with other celebrities and brands jumping on board.

Donation points include: George Floyd’s Memorial Fund

Campaign Zero which dedicated to police reform and the reduction of violence.

Colour of Change the largest online racial injustice organisation.

On May 29 Grindr realised that #BlackLivesMatter… more so than preferences.

The queer hook-up app, which has long defended its decision to keep its ethnicity filters, (which allowed users to discriminate against potential sexual partners based on the colour of their skin), received further backlash when they tweeted about the racial equality movement.

The tweet caused respondents to call for them to remove the filter, and so they did. After deleting the original tweet, Grindr released another message:

‘We stand in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the hundreds of thousands of people of color who log into our app every day.

‘We will not be silent, and we will not be inactive. Today we are making donations to the Marsha P Johnson Institute and Black Lives Matter and urge you to do the same if you can.

‘We will continue to fight racism on Grindr, both through dialogue with our community and a zero-tolerance policy for racism and hate speech on our platform.

‘As part of this commitment, and based on your feedback, we have decided to remove the ethnicity filter from our next release.’

Well, it’s about time they actually did something, rather than jumping on a trendy bandwagon without any actions. Didn’t they bring in that whole “Kindr” initiative out like 2/3 years ago?

While people of colour and their white allies around the world protest to the ongoing police brutality, people like adult performer Billy Santoro are showing their true colours. (Spoiler: it’s extremely white).

OnlyFans and Twitter were next to take action. Before his Twitter account was deleted Santoro tried to justify his racism (again without any actual apology). Firstly claiming that he “doesn’t even have a Facebook account” and then just 40 minutes later saying he lashed out because his friend had died.

Girl, that status was not reflective of someone grieving the loss of a friend.

As for not being racist, he was also snapped responding to Hawk’s Bar & Grill. The company had issued a statement saying they didn’t want their property damaged but that if it was needed to “bring proper attention to the disgusting injustice… so be it”

Santoro offerer an alternative, that “the blacks will breed more hatred toward them”. (We’re not sure who they are, but maybe he was high on Tina and tweeting).

Last night, (Monday 1st) Santoro’s Twitter page was suspended – hopefully indefinitely – although porn blog The Sword notes that when his OnlyFans was active, it contained clip teasers with references to “a dose of Tina” and black fetishization.

Other adult performers who rushed to condemn Santoro include Austin Wolf who called him a “nasty son of a bitch” and called for his accounts to be deleted. While Austin Wilde called him a “racist steroid queen”.

Trent Atkins and Josh Moore also joined the stand against Santoro on social media.

The UK government has promised to ban the homophobic practice of “conversion therapy”.

Women and Equalities Minister Liz Truss said: “I fundamentally disagree with attempts to forcibly change someone’s sexuality and I will shortly be bringing forward plans to end conversion therapy.”

The UK had vowed the ban the practice back in 2018, but its place on the British agenda seems to have slipped – if not completely disappeared – in recent years. Until last week, when the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT Rights, refreshed calls for a ban by penning a letter to Truss.

She responded:

‘As you know, there are certain abhorrent and violent practices which may be classed as conversion therapy such as “corrective” rape, or other forms of physical abuse, which are already covered by existing criminal offences.

‘Where such practices are already unlawful, we will ensure the law is clear, well understood and enforced.

‘Where dangerous conversion therapy practices are not already unlawful, I am examining the best ways to prevent them being conducted, without sending such practices underground.

‘It is of course the case that we are not trying to prevent LGBT people from seeking spiritual support from their faith leader in the exploration of their sexual orientation.

‘However, I should be clear that this does not extend to supporting the use of conversion therapy in any context, spiritual or otherwise.’

Tuss has been speaking with Germany – who have already banned the ‘cure’ – for advice. Malta, Ecuador, Brazil and Taiwan are the only other four countries to have passed laws. Along with 20 states in America, and partial bans in Spain, China and Switzerland.

Canada, Ireland, Australia and Chile and also considering bans.

Offering an opinion that nobody asked for on the George Floyd saga, Hawn said police should “shoot looters of all colours”.

Despite the fact that a man died unjustly, Hawn condemns the riots saying that there is no faster way to give the keys to Trump for another 4 years.

He also claims to have abandoned his gay rights because he doesn’t want to watch the city burn; further exemplary of how thick Hawn is: good luck living in a built-up city when it’s gays who are getting murdered by the cops.

And if that’s not enough, somebody created an Instagram account: BryanHawnRacist which delivers all the receipts of his racist opinions, including ones that say he “refuses to be associated with the (BLM) movement” and that police need to “up their game” – despite trampling people with horsing, gassing peaceful protestors and hitting them with batons and their cars.
