Fernando Bayona is a Spanish artist that tells an intriguing narrative through each of his images, touching primarily on the positive and negative impact of love, through the themes of fairy tales, freakshows, fantasy and religion.
His exquisite attention to detail can be likened to David LaChapelle, and even Salvadore Dali.
But you’ve never seen Disney this stunning…
But where his talent really begins to shine is through the series What Never Was, and The Other Side. The Other Side looks at body as a tool for work; strippers, porn stars and prostitutes, and the alter ego they construct for themselves in order to keep a barrier between their personal lives and their profession. He aims to highlight the intimate moments that frequently go unseen due to the stigma attached to sex workers.
What Never Was, on the other hand, tends to allow the viewer to make up their own mind with regards to the narrative. Undeniably intriguing, Bayona gives his audience permission to peer into a scene that they perhaps should not be seeing. Sometimes sexual, and frequently unnerving, each piece makes it’s own comment about human relationships.
